Vice Premier Sun Chunlan Inspected Progress of the Winter Olympics and the National Teams’ Preparation at Genting Resort Secret Garden

On February 17, a group of personnel visited Genting Secret Garden to inspect the preparation for the Winter Olympics and provide guidance. The group includes Sun Chunlan, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council; Gou Zhongwen, director of the General Administration of Sport of China; Ding Xiangyang, Deputy Secretary General of the State Council; Gao Zhidan, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sport of China; Sun Haokang, Director of the 3rd Secretary Division, General Office of the State Council; Ni Huizhong, Director and Party Secretary of the Winter Sports Administrative Center; and Yang Dong, Deputy Director of the Winter Sports Administrative Center. They were accompanied by: Wang Dongfeng, Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of Hebei Provincial People's Congress; Xu Qin, Governor of Hebei Province and Head of the Leading Group for Work on the 24th Hebei Winter Olympics; Xu Jianpei, Vice Governor of Hebei Province and Vice President of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympic Games; Li Pu, Deputy Secretary General of the People's Government of Hebei Province and Director of the Leading Group’s Office for Work on the 24th Hebei Winter Olympics; Zhang Zefeng, Director of the Hebei Provincial Sports Bureau; Hui Jian, Secretary of Zhangjiakou Municipal Party Committee; Wu Weidong, Mayor of Zhangjiakou City; Wang Biao, Secretary of Chongli District Party Committee; Zhao Zan, Director of Chongli District; Yin Zhigang, Deputy Director of Chongli District; and others. The visiting personnel were warmly received by the following executives of Genting Secret Garden: Chairman of the board, Lim Chee Wah; President, Xiao Huanwei; Senior Vice President Shu Wen; Vice President Zhao Jianmin; Marketing Center Director and General Manager of Genting Grand Hotel Zhang Xuguang; Director of Public Relations Department and Deputy Director of Genting Winter Olympics Office Zhao Qiong; and others.

The first stop of the visiting group was Genting Snow Park, the demonstration venue for the 2022 Winter Olympics, where they inspected the completed halfpipe and the sites for ski-jumping, slopestyle and parallel giant slalom (PGS). They also watched the training of the national teams for the sports of freestyle halfpipe, freestyle ski-jumping, slopestyle and PGS.

After viewing the training of the athletes, Sun Chunlan went to the front of Genting Snow Park and asked athletes and coaches about their training and preparations while expressing her sincere greetings and new year blessings to all the athletes, coaches and other staff. She encouraged them to study and practice the spirit of the important speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping when he inspected the preparations for the Beijing Winter Olympics, and she advocated them to earnestly engage in training and game preparation, endeavor to make new breakthroughs, and lay a foundation for the completion of the preparatory work for the Beijing Winter Olympics with excellent performance and high quality. After that, Sun took photos with them.

Later on, the inspection group went to Genting’s site for freestyle skiing aerials to watch the training of the national team for this sport. They all gave a big hand to the athletes for their wonderful aerial movements and perfect landing.

Sun Chunlan cordially exchanged words with the athletes and coaches about their training and preparations, and asked whether they were accustomed to the life here. She stated that it is a major issue for the party and the country to hold the Beijing Winter Olympics well, and that General Secretary Xi Jinping, during his special trip to the National Winter Sports Training Center on the eve of the Spring Festival to hold talks and inspect the preparations and training, put forward the clear requirements of "enhancing a sense of honor for the country, strengthening the confidence in winning good results, train hard and prepare well to attain greater achievements”. Sun encouraged the personnel there to keep in mind the touching words of General Secretary Xi Jinping, carry forward Chinese athletes’ sportsmanship and the Olympic spirit, unremittingly strive for the goal, adhere to the excellent tradition of the national teams for sports training in a scientific manner, comprehensively improve their competitive level, so as to show better performance, demonstrate the admirable images of Chinese athletes in the new era, and add glory to the motherland and their own lives.

Sun Chunlan emphasized that: more efforts should be made to comprehensively do the preparatory work in a detail-oriented, meticulous and effective manner, earnestly spot our weaknesses and make corrections, reasonably select and scientifically train talents, strengthen research on the laws of various sports, and summarize and accumulate more experience in sports competition, training management, on-site coaching, event organization, sports technology and other fields; we should further improve a complete set of supporting systems for scientific research, medical care, nutrition, equipment, and psychology, coordinate and improve all the related tasks, so as to provide overall services for training and preparations; we must do well the anti-doping work in the zero-tolerance principle to ensure that winter sports can be as pure as snow and ice; as the lead-up to the Beijing Winter Olympics will soon turn to the “ready for test” stage, we should, in line with games-time standards, provide relevant preparatory support for event organization, competition services and relevant tasks, and effectively promote the construction of venues and supporting facilities. She required all relevant departments in various regions to conscientiously implement the decision and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, grasp the great opportunity for the development of China's winter sports, further promote the nation-wide fitness activities including winter sports, improve physical fitness facilities, promote the coordinated development of mass sports, competitive sports and the sports industry, and make contribution to the undertaking of building a strong sports country and a healthy China.

On February 18, Board Chairman Lim Chee Wah and President Xiao Huanwei of Genting Secret Garden saw off Vice Premier Sun, who said to Lim Chee Wah, "Thank you for your contribution to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. We had quite a cozy stay at this leisure hotel. Your service is very good, too. Thanks a lot."

Secretary Wang Dongfeng, at the same time of extending his gratitude to Genting for its contribution, also urged Lim Chee Wah to earnestly prepare for the Winter Olympics. Lim Chee Wah responded by promising that Genting Secret Garden will do its best so that leaders of the State Council, the provincial party committee and the provincial government can stay assured.

It was Governor Xu Qin’s second visit to Genting to inspect the preparations for the Winter Olympics. While setting high requirements for the construction of the venues, he also made excellent proposals for the Zhangjiakou ski resort in terms of its market development, customer demand and all-year-round operations.

Genting Snow Park is one of the three demonstration venues of the 2022 Winter Olympics and also the hosting site for the freestyle skiing and snowboarding competitions during the event. In this park, six Winter Olympic sports will be held, and they are aerials, Moguls, halfpipe, slopestyle, PGS and cross, generating a total of 20 gold medals. In 2021, the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships will be held here, as test matches that lead up to the 2022 Winter Olympics.

In Genting Snow Park, a number of FIS World Cup events have been successively hosted, including halfpipe, slopestyle and aerials, and on February 23, 2019, the FIS World Cup Parallel Giant Slalom will be held here. Genting Secret Garden boasts world's top race tracks, cable cars, grooming machines and other hardware facilities, in addition to rich experience in hosting events and providing related support. In October 2019, Genting Snow Park will finish its construction of three other Winter Olympic tracks, respectively for cross, freestyle aerials and Moguls. In the snow season 2019-20, the tracks will be officially open and events like the FIS World Cup will be hosted.
